Phone ports on the router

The Centro Business 2.0 features two ATA ports for analog terminal devices as well as two ITA ports for digital ISDN sets. Furthermore, it offers an integrated DECT base station where up to five handsets can be registered.

With the Centro Business 3.0, only two ATA ports are available. ISDN or DECT functions are no longer integrated in this model.

Via the local network (LAN), up to ten SIP telephones or soft clients can additionally be registered on the Centro Business.

Goal and Purpose

Connect a landline phone to the Centro Business and make calls at home cheaply, comfortably, and sustainably.

Analog telephone on the FXS port (ATA): (CB2.0/CB3.0)

  • The Centro Business has two FXS ports. One analog telephone (without additional bell) can be operated per FXS port.

  • The operation of FAX devices is not recommended for data protection reasons.

IP telephones on the Ethernet port (SIP-TA): (CB2.0/CB3.0)

  • Via Ethernet connections, up to 10 IP telephones can be connected using the SIP-TA (B2BUA) (for further information see SIP-TA).

DECT handsets: (CB2.0)

  • Up to five DECT handsets can be registered on the Centro Business 2.0. Further information under DECT.

ISDN telephones on the ISDN port (ITA): (CB2.0)

danger

No functional guarantee for ISDN Since the completion of the All IP migration and the final phase-out of analog telephony in 2018, Swisscom granted a transition phase until 2021 within the scope of basic service provision, during which ISDN remained available for end customers to ensure the switch to modern solutions. This was made possible by the Centro Business 2.0, which provides an emulated ISDN function.

Although this ISDN emulation remains part of the functional scope of the Centro Business 2.0, it is no longer guaranteed since 2022.

  • The Centro Business 2.0 has two ISDN ports. Two ISDN telephones can be connected directly or up to eight ISDN telephones via in-house cabling (S-Bus). A maximum of 2 calls can be conducted simultaneously.

  • The ISDN interface ensures only the two basic functions: making incoming and outgoing calls.

  • Since the shutdown of ISDN, the continued use of ISDN telephones is still possible but no longer recommended.

Prerequisites for using telephony

  • At least one number must be registered on the Centro Business 2.0 or Centro Business 3.0.

  • The telephony LED lights up white or green depending on the landline subscription.

FAQ on Phone Ports

What is an additional bell?

An additional bell or auxiliary ringer signals incoming telephone calls with a very loud tone or with light effects. Older models in particular have high power consumption and can thus disturb telephony functions.

Why is FAX no longer up to date?

For most FAX applications, alternatives with higher data security than conventional paper FAX exist today. Unattended, received documents no longer satisfy data protection requirements.
