Manage Internet
In the router portal under Internet → Basic settings, the status of the internet connection and various WAN settings are displayed and managed.
WAN Status
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| WAN Access | Shows the active internet access technology (XGS-PON, VDSL, 5G etc.) |
| Internet Backup / Mobile Access | Shows whether Internet Backup is active and which device is being used |
| WAN Failover on Eth. 4 | Status of the failover via a secondary internet connection |
WAN Reset
The "WAN Reset" option resets the WAN interface of the router without restarting the entire router. After the reset, the Autosense process restarts, detects the correct WAN technology, and automatically re-establishes the connection.
Internet access is briefly interrupted during the WAN Reset (approx. 30–60 seconds). Local settings are preserved.
When to perform a WAN Reset:
- Internet connection is unstable or down
- After a technology change (e.g. copper → fibre)
- Connection problems after a network interruption
DNS Settings
In the basic configuration, two Swisscom DNS servers are configured on the Centro Business. If required, alternative DNS servers can be entered.
In the router portal under Internet → Basic settings → DNS:
- Primary DNS server — IP address of the preferred DNS
- Secondary DNS server — Fallback DNS in case the primary fails
The Swisscom DNS servers are optimal for most use cases. Custom DNS servers are only needed for internal name resolution or special requirements.
PPPoE Settings
PPPoE settings are only visible with the "Fix IP" option.
The PPPoE account username and password are automatically configured by Swisscom via provisioning (Easy Activation). The credentials are displayed on this page so they can be used for the configuration of PPP Passthrough on the external gateway.
Remote Access from the Internet
This option allows the techadmin access to be enabled so that an IT partner can remotely access the router.
Setup:
- Under Internet → Basic settings → Remote access, first define and save a password for the techadmin
- Enable the Remote access option
- Select the desired duration for remote access

| WAN Failover | Failover via secondary ISP | WAN Failover |
FAQ – Manage Internet
What needs to be configured for internet access to work?
The basic configuration for internet access is part of the internet subscription and is managed by Swisscom. No manual configuration is required.
Are PPPoE connections regularly interrupted?
Yes. Approximately once a week, the PPPoE session is disconnected by the RADIUS for a few seconds (every 7–8 days, between 01:00 and 05:00). This serves the load balancing of approximately 64,000 PPPoE sessions across the ISG servers in Switzerland.
Is the internet access protected against attacks?
- With the integrated Firewall, the router is protected against ping and port scanning attacks.
- In the event of DDoS attacks, the router and LAN infrastructure remain protected; however, existing connections may be affected.
When should a WAN Reset be performed?
A WAN Reset is useful in the following cases:
- Unstable or failed internet connection
- After a technology change
- Connection problems after network interruptions
The reset only resets the WAN interface — all local settings are preserved.
