All about Mesh
With the use of up to three WiFi6 Business WLAN boxes, the WLAN1 and/or WLAN2 of the Centro Business 3.0 can be expanded into a mesh WLAN. End devices in the "mesh area" receive a unified WLAN and seamless coverage.
Mesh makes it possible to build a large WLAN network and improve both range and performance. Devices can move freely within the mesh network — they are automatically connected to the access point with the best signal (seamless roaming).
Typical use cases
- Large office spaces: Ensure WLAN coverage across multiple rooms or floors
- Hospitality / Hotels: Area-wide WLAN for guests and operations
- Medical / Legal offices: Stable connection for VoIP phones and workstations throughout the building
- Warehouse / Workshop: Extend WLAN into areas the router alone cannot cover
- Seamless Roaming: Uninterrupted handover between access points for mobile devices (e.g. VoIP handsets)
Business WLAN-Box commissioning
To commission the Business WLAN-Box, simply connect your smartphone, tablet or PC to the router WLAN and scan the QR code on the back of the Business WLAN-Box. The installation wizard guides you through the required steps:
- Select WLAN — Configure the WLAN to extend (WLAN1 and/or WLAN2)
- Activate Mesh — Enable the mesh function
- Pair — Pair and update firmware of the Business WLAN-Box if necessary
- Position — Final placement of the WLAN box for optimal coverage
Place the Business WLAN-Box where it still has good reception from the Centro Business (at least 2 bars). Too much distance significantly reduces mesh performance.
Mesh settings
In the router portal under WLAN → Mesh the following settings are available:
- View the status of the mesh function
- Enable and disable the mesh function
- View the status of connected Business WLAN boxes
- Restart, reset or unpair individual Business WLAN boxes that have already been paired
Mesh diagnostics
The router portal provides a graphical representation of the network topology and currently connected devices. Topology changes, as well as the addition and removal of devices, are recorded and listed in a log.
Mesh topologies
Three topologies are supported:
| Topology | Description | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Star | All WLAN boxes connected directly to the CB | Small areas, centrally positioned router |
| Chain | WLAN boxes chained one after another | Elongated buildings, corridors |
| Mixed | Combination of Star and Chain | Complex floor plans |
Conditions and restrictions

- A maximum of three Business WLAN boxes can be combined into a mesh WLAN network
- The separate WLAN cannot be extended with the Business WLAN-Box
