All about Mesh

With the use of up to three WiFi6 Business WLAN boxes, the WLAN1 and/or WLAN2 of the Centro Business 3.0 can be expanded to a mesh WLAN. The end devices located in the "mesh area" receive a standardised WLAN and comprehensive reception.

The Business WLAN Box has been available in the Swisscom online shop and in the "Swisscom Shop" since autumn 2024.


Goal and purpose​

Mesh makes it possible to set up a large WLAN network and improve the range and performance of the network. In addition, the WLAN device can be moved around the mesh network without interruption and it is automatically connected to the access point with the best WLAN signal.

  • Simple commissioning of the Business WLAN Box supported by an installation wizard

  • Configuration of the WLAN(s) to be extended (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz)

  • Display the status of the wireless mesh WLAN, activate and deactivate MESH

  • View the connection overview and network topology with mesh diagnostics

Business WLAN-Box Commissioning​

To put the Business WLAN Box into operation, simply connect your smartphone, tablet or PC to the WLAN router and scan the QR code on the back of the Business WLAN Box. The installation wizard launched in this way guides you through the necessary commissioning steps:

  • Configuration of the WLAN to be extended (WLAN1 and/or WLAN2)

  • Activation of the mesh function

  • Pairing and updating the Business WLAN Box if necessary

  • Final positioning of the WLAN box


Making mesh settings​

The following settings and functions can be made in the router portal:

  • View the status of the Mesh function

  • Switch mesh function on and off

  • View the status of the connected Business WLAN boxes

  • Restart, reset or unpair the individual Business WLAN Boxes that have already been paired


Mesh diagnosis​

The router portal provides a graphical representation of the network topology and the currently connected devices. Topology changes, as well as the addition and removal of devices, are recorded and listed in a log.


Conditions and restrictions​

  • The Business WLAN Box can only be used in combination with the CB 3.0

  • A maximum of three business WLAN boxes can be combined to form a Star, Chain or Mixed Mesh WLAN network

  • The separate WLAN cannot be extended with the Business WLAN Box

  • If IP or PPPoE passthrough is used, the Business WLAN Box cannot be used

Can non-Swisscom devices also be connected to the Mesh network?

No. The Mesh system works exclusively with the Centro Business 3.0 and the Business WLAN Box.
