Easy-Activation explained

Find out more about the Swisscom procedures required to guarantee the operation of your router and Internet access here:

**Why does Swisscom push its own routers for the various Internet services?
- Swisscom Switzerland Ltd is 100% subject to the guidelines laid down by OFCOM. As a telecommunications service provider (TSP), the company undertakes to guarantee compliance with the various legal provisions such as the TCA and the TIO and to take account of all adjustments in a timely manner.
- This means that Swisscom must be able to check devices that are considered part of the Internet service and take measures if necessary (e.g. a firmware update with a security adjustment)
- At the same time, Swisscom itself strives for a high level of customer satisfaction and endeavours to make the use of its products as easy as possible for end customers.

In order to create these conditions, the end customer accepts the corresponding administration and access rights by Swisscom with the GTCs. Swisscom's data protection conditions are monitored and complied with at the highest level.

Initial configuration parameters

The most important settings and parameters for Internet access are already prepared during the service order. If you then connect the router to the Swisscom network for the first time, it immediately initialises communication with "Device Management". If the contact is successful, the router firmware is also checked and, if necessary, deleted. updated directly. The personal configurations are then transferred to the router. This includes the following elements:

  • Admin password for the router portal

    - WLAN SSID name and passwords including the standard WLAN configuration

    - Pairing information of any installed business WLAN boxes
    - Telephony settings if this service is used
    - PPP access data if the FixIP addresses option is used
    - Various settings required for Swisscom network operation

#### Central storage of local adjustments
If the above settings are modified or personalised locally by the user, the router transmits this data to Swisscom in encrypted form. The aim of this measure is a simple reset or router immersion procedure that immediately restores the most important settings to the customer without any action on their part.

FAQ - Easy-Activation

Can the synchronisation of the Easy-Activation parameters be prevented?
**InOne SME or Business Internet Service**: In My Swisscom Business there is the "Privacy option" which can be activated by the user. This means that the last status of the parameters remains centralised at Swisscom, but are not corrected by local adjustments.
- Consequence:
- Swisscom cannot offer support, as no information can be provided for either password or usage support.
- In the event of a reset or router replacement, outdated settings that are unfamiliar to the user may be configured via Easy Activation.

Why does Swisscom manage certain settings centrally?
1. it primarily serves to ensure that the customer experience can be optimised. However, with increasingly stringent data protection requirements, it is a challenge to reconcile these two needs.
2. as an FMA, Swisscom is obliged to provide the user with security-compliant Internet access. This includes, in particular, password management, which ensures that the system is maximally protected against misuse and attacks. Swisscom can only ensure this condition if it is the "administrator" of these parameters.
3. by centralising the information, Swisscom can ensure that the user or their IT partner can also manage this data "remotely", for example in "My Swisscom Business".
Why is "device management" so important for Swisscom?

The "Device Management" functions as the central orchestrator of all Swisscom routers, including the Centro Business family:1) It coordinates the individual device configurations mentioned above, according to the products and options used by the customer or site. 2) It coordinates the distribution and monitoring of firmware updates across the various populations 3. It ensures real-time information retrieval (status of the device) in the event of fault messages via the hotline or selfcare 4. If required, it transmits device manipulations such as router restarts, factory resets or activates temporary remote access, for example

Without these options, there will be a massive reduction in Swisscom's warranties to the customer.
