πŸš€ Update July 2026: New Centro Business 3.0 Firmware "10.04.14" available β€” fixes the Alcatel/TCL Internet Backup Dongle issue. Details in the Release Note.

WAN Failover

WAN Failover ensures a continuous Internet connection by automatically switching to a secondary, independent Internet connection in the event of a failure of the main Swisscom line. Should the Internet connection be impaired by an interruption or failure of the line (copper, fiber optic), WAN Failover automatically takes over the function of the Internet connection (comparable to Internet Backup).

Typical use cases

  • Business-critical applications: POS systems, cloud ERP or VoIP that cannot tolerate interruptions.
  • Home office with availability requirements: Stable Internet access for remote workplaces.
  • Surveillance systems: IP cameras and alarm systems that must be permanently online.
  • Redundancy for VPN sites: Site-to-site VPN should remain reachable even during line failures.

Instructions

  • In the router portal under Internet β†’ Basic Settings
  • Activate the option "WAN Failover on ETH Port 4"
  • Connect the LAN of the secondary independent Internet connection to Centro Business Port 4

Prerequisites for WAN Failover

  • No Internet Backup USB Stick, 4G Mobile Backup Toolkit, or 5G Mobile Backup Toolkit is connected to the Centro Business.
  • An active, secondary, and independent Internet connection must be available.

Limitations

  • Fixed IP addresses from the Swisscom contract are not available via the secondary Internet connection.
  • If Beem Security is used, this service does not apply.
  • blue TV does not work.

FAQ – WAN Failover

What is the difference between WAN Failover and Internet Backup from Swisscom?
  • With Internet Backup via 4G/5G, all Swisscom services are available (except blue TV).
  • With WAN Failover, only the Internet connection and telephony are available via a secondary Internet connection.
How can WAN Failover be tested?

Test steps:

  1. Ensure that WAN Failover is activated on the Centro Business and a secondary Internet connection is connected to Port 4.
  2. Manually disconnect the cable of the main Swisscom line (xDSL or fiber optic) (unplug cable).
  3. Wait briefly until the Centro Business establishes the connection with the secondary Internet connection.
